.There are sooff everything.These weekends were very many facets to it, um, you have to find outwhere and when to find your fish, you haveto have some engineering experience if youhave breakdowns, er, knowledge ofelectronics, I really had a struggle with thatone, ropes and knots, there s an awful lot tocover.And you also have to get on with yourcompanions, you have to rely on your mates- if you ve got to be worried about them notdoing what they should do, you could be inserious trouble.Presenter: Do you enjoy the work?Peter: Well, every day s different, you never stoplearning.You know, you get an awful lot ofrespect for the sea.There s not another joblike it at all.I mean, you could be sitting inan office, tapping away on a computer,doing the same thing day in day out.Withfishing, you go.I mean.every day theweather s different, the catch is different, thefishing s different, you earn different money.You ve got more of an incentive to gobecause you can say, well, if I don t go, Idon t earn any money.Presenter: So does fishing give you a good living?Peter: One week you might not earn a great dealand then a couple of weeks later you mightearn four times as much, so what you ve gotto do is set yourself a certain amount ofmoney to live on and, if you can, put someaside in the bank for when the weather sgoing to be bad.Then, when the fishingdoes die, you can say I can have threemonths off and you can afford to do it.You getpaid a share rather than a basic weeklywage, so if the boat doesn t go to sea, that willmean you don t earn much at all, but youhave to find money to pay the bills anyway.Presenter: Does your job allow you to have much of asocial life?
